Kia ora Team,

I have just watched the last 10mins of a debate about Maori Rugby and what “control” we should have and be in the world cup.

What message are we sending if we put a Maori Team in the rugby world cup?

To me we are sending messages of;


ü Separation of NZ and no unity AT ALL!

Sure you can argue that we don’t get “equal” opportunity in the NZRU currently, actually you CAN argue that a lot!!!

Why become what NZRU are doing which is “passive racism” i.e. saying they care and showing it on a ‘surface’ but we all know it’s just “show”!!

Which brings me back too, is going out as a separate union the BEST answer to that “passive racism”?

I believe becoming our own identity in rugby is NOT going to serve us, let us not create “us” and “them” which in it’s essence, is a mindset of division!!

NZ as a nation is NO DIFFERENT we are “passive racist” country!
ü What is the Solution to this “passive racism” in our rugby code?

At this point, I think the best answer is to put in place a team/board that “serves” the NZRU in what they want….

E.g. NZRU want the Maori team to do

1. ________
2. ________
3. __________
4. _________
5. etc…



From knowing what NZRU want we can come to an “agreement” of some sorts i.e. Ask the simple question; This is all you want from the Maori team, from this we have met all your obligations, is this correct?

We met their obligations and do so consistently!

From this behavior the Maori Board/Team/Players give NZRU NO REASON to suppress the Maori board/team/players and gives us the “power” to get more.

How would it look after 3yrs of “doing what NZRU want” to then for them to show the same “passive racism” they currently show!! We have all the fire power to “get more” and we have EARNT it because they have stipulated what they “want” from the Maori team/board/players and we have met them with flying colours!!!

This is Kissing arse?

Some may see this as kissing their a.s.s. I see it as raising above the Bullshyt and keeping your eye on the ball i.e. the future of the NEXT generation of Maori players coming through!! At the moment we are playing into the NZRU hands by continuing debates of separation rather then thinking of the future and figuring out HOW to get it!

To me it would be a very sad day to see Maori vs All Blacks, in the world cup! While it may serve us in the immediate gratification, the message to my kids (moko 20+yrs) is a nation further divided by “us” and “them”! When I am not one or the other, I’m very proud to have been brought up more in my Maori culture but I have never forgotten that I am of European decent as well!!

I have been very fortunate to have represented NZR U16 and NZRL Maori Students among other provincial age grade teams in both league and rugby.

I put the above in so you don’t see that I’m just someone who “watches” sport I am someone who has experienced some high level achievements as well and have just recently “finished” playing!
