Gang Girls

Directed by Paula Jones. Produced by Claudette Hauiti.

This Qantas Media Award winning television documentary, Gang Girls tells the story of seven women from three of New Zealand’s most notorious gangs.

This is the first time that gang women in New Zealand have told their very personal stories with honesty and passion that will intrigue and fascinate, horrify and humble the most hardened of hearts.

Our women tell of journeys that span unsettled childhoods where they experienced rampant abuse, living on the streets, joining the gangs and life for them today. For many of our women their journey starts with their childhood and these stories of the sense of loss and gain, extreme violence and brutality, strength, loyalty and power and even at times humour, will leave the viewer with a better understanding of our women and all women like them, women who got involved in gangs, how they lived the gang life and how eventually some of them left the gangs.

A highly emotional expose of their stories, struggles, histories, courage and strengths. This documentary is a social commentary on New Zealand society.
